Anybody know much about whey protein please?

ive always wanted to buy one lol but not sure why. was in town yesterday and my local GNC has got sales and its down to 14.50 i fink. so wanted to find out is it just for muscle builders or can anyone else drink it even though they are not exercising regularly? and do they have any side effects?
