I lied to my best friend. How do I get his friendship back?

I lied to my best guy friend for 4 months. I Led him to believe that he was going to get a job a my company. the thing was, I had lost my job at the company and I was embarrassed to tell him. so I lied when I said I was working for them and could get him a job. he fink ally put the pieces together last week and figured it out. I tried to cover it up with more lies (another big mistake) but finally just told the truth. He said I disgusted him and he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. I understand what I did was the worst and I'm ashamed of myself. I tried writing him a letter explaining how it all happened, how I was embarrassed to tell him the truth etc.. But he won't respond to me. Did I ruin my friendship forever with him? Is ther any way of getting back? I miss him so much.
